When I picked David up after school today, he was calm, cool, and collected as he told me about his day. “…then she told us who was the student of the week…” I said, “Who is it?” He says “David Coutourier”, then does his “happy dance” from the backseat. What!!! Usually, that’s the first thing he bellows out when we see him after he is announced The King. The fact that he held that for a few minutes was impressive.
Unfortunate due to the circumstances, but fortunate for us, David’s BFF is in town. So his Student of the Week award was a perfect reason to celebrate with a surprise outing with his friend. His BFF had told her mom that they needed to do something “For Old Times Sake!” When she told me about it, we chuckled that our pint-size people could have “old times”. As we were planning their reunion, we decided to surprise the kids and go meet up at our favorite spot for….Old Times Sake. LOL!
My mini detective figured it out on the way to Chick-fil-a!!! I told him that we were going to go eat somewhere special to celebrate his Student of the week award. Then I suggested we go to Chick-fil-a. He said “Nah, let’s go to the place with the red crab” Red Lobster? “Yes, or the place with the peanuts!” Texas Roadhouse? “Yes! I like both of those places!” Geeze Louise, I guess I shouldn’t have said ‘special’ because those places are very rare for him.
A few hours later, I had deferred the red crab and peanut places and we were headed to Chick-fil-a. Then he asked the million-dollar question: “Are we going to eat inside?” I replied “Yeah”. Then he said, “I know I’m going to see my BFF”. I have no poker face, so good thing my eyes were on the road. There were a few more comments and questions so by the time we got there and he saw her, he was with full of I-told-you-so’s!!!! We rarely go inside, so I should have held that piece of info for a bit longer. Oy! Oy! My granny would always say I couldn’t hold water.
Nonetheless, these two were happy to see each other. They had fun for a couple hours; playing, eating, playing some more… for Old Times Sake! LOL.
